Alfred Jacob Hill was the last of five children born to Elijah Hill and Rebecca (Wenrich) Hill. His siblings were Seth Comly Hill, Mary Catherine Hill (wife of Daniel R. Weidenhamer), Charles M. Hill, and John Louis Hill. The children were born and raised on a farm near Pottsgrove, East Chillisquaque Twp., Northumberland Co., PA.
On November 11, 1880, Alfred married Mary Ann Ware, daughter of Noah Ware and Sarah (Klase) Ware. Alfred worked first as a painter, and later a farmer. His farm was on east Broadway Road (SR 254) in Turbot twp., east of Milton, PA. Their children were Gertrude May Hill, who married Percy Hagenbuch, Cyrus Brown Hill, who married Grace Irene Reichard, and Morris Henry Hill, who died at the age of 5. Cyrus was named after a prominent Milton druggist, Cyrus Brown.
After Alfred died in 1918, Mary Ann moved to 18 Queen Street in Milton. At age 70, she was living alone and working at The Holland restaurant at 15 Broadway in Milton. The Holland had previously been owned by Seth Arthur Hill, Alfred’s grandnephew.
