- She was born Anita Louise Fredericks. Her name was changed to Hill at a later date. There is to date no evidence of an adoption. Her father was Adam Henry Fredericks.
From Edna Schultheiss: Anita Louise was born on November 3, 1931, in my parents' home at 868 Hollywood St., Grand Rapids, Michigan. When I came home from school that day, they let me hold her. I was almost 10 years old, so she was like a little sister to me. A bed had been set up in the basement and they had put cement blocks under each leg of the bed; probably so that the doctor wouldn’t have to lean so far. This was strange to me. Anita’s father was Adam Fredericks, but I don’t remember seeing him there.

| Biography |
- Memories from her brother, Larry Hill: She was engaged, about 1951, to a Joseph Kelly, who was killed by a hit-and-run driver. I was only 5 years old at the time, and did not understand why my sister, who was always so happy, was so devastated and crying. She was like a mother to me, and held and played with me as much as she could. After we moved to Northville in 1953 I seldom saw her. I remember staying with her at her apartment in Detroit for a week, probably in 1952. She took me out to dinner at a pizza place, and was surprised that I didn't know what pizza was.
She was married in 1954 (I was her ring bearer) and moved to Barrett St. in Madison Heights. I remember staying with her there around Christmas time in 1954. I accidentally knocked over the Christmas tree. She didn't make a big fuss about that.
I found out from her in later years that she and our mother did not get along very well, which accounts for my seldom seeing her. She was raised mostly by Mom's parents and sisters until she was 9. Mom and Dad built a new house in Detroit in 1940, and she then came to live with them. Mom did not tell me until I was 16 that Anita was my half-sister. I was kind of shocked by that because Dad always treated her as his own daughter, so I did not have a clue, but it did not change my love for her. We were always close, but it was very difficult for me to visit her because my work moved me around a lot, and the distances were very long. I still miss her to this day. She was a warm, wonderful person.
