• Notes

  Ralph Jocelyn, of Hide Hall, Sawbridgeworth, married first Anne Sandys. She apparently died, and he married second Maud Sutton. Maud was the daughter of Sir John de Sutton, Knight (alias Dudley). In 1301, Ralph was given the manor of Shellow-Bowels by his father-in-law, John de Sutton. On 8 Oct 1302, Ralph held one and a half knight's fees in Shellow and Sawbridgeworth. In 1309 he was a commissioner to collect a tax in Hertfordshire for the war with Scotland.
