A dispatch was received last night from Kinzua, McKean county, by Albert Cadwallader from his son, Dr. S. I. • Mrs. Cadwallader’s Condition.
A letter from Albert Cadwallader, written yesterday morning at Kinzua, says that Mrs. Cadwallader is in a dying condition, and that they have no hopes
of her recovery. This will be sad news to the many friends of this estimable lady in Milton and elsewhere.
Death 15 Sep 1905  Kinzua, McKean, Pennsylvania, United States Find all individuals with events at this location
    • She apparently did not enjoy vigorous health. She had suffered from kidney disease for a number of years. They regularly had a live-in maid to help with the housework.

A surgical operation of an intricate nature was performed on the person of Mrs. A. Cadwallader, of Philadelphia, formerly of Milton, a few days since. The operation was successful and the lady is on a fair way to recovery.

The cause of her death was an abscess on her right side that would not heal. Albert Cadwallader had made plans to take Annie on a trip west where they would spend the rest of the year 1905 with their son Austin Cadwallader in Los Angeles. Kinzua was to be a first stop on that trip. A short time before her trip to Kinzua the week of June 3rd, she tripped and fell on the stairs, hitting her side on the baluster. The injury was not considered serious, but developed into a painful abscess while she was visiting her son Seth Iredell in Kinzua. She died there under his care.
    Obituary 17 Sep 1905  [1
    • MRS. ALBERT CADWALLADER

An Estimable Lady Passed Away Shortly After Midnight at Kinzua.
Has Been Suffering From Kidney Trouble for a Number of Years. Remains Will Be Brought Here for Burial.

A message from Kinzua, McKean county, this morning, brought the sad news that Mrs. Albert Cadwallader passed away shortly after midnight. Mrs. Cadwallader has been in ill health for several years. In the early summer Mr. Cadwallader started west with her, expecting to spend the balance of the year in Los Angeles. They stopped for a short time to visit their son, Dr. Iredell Cadwallader, at Kinzua, and there Mrs. Cadwallader was taken ill, and was unable to continue the contemplated trip to the coast. The immediate cause of her death was a malignant abscess on her right side. A short time before she left home she tripped and fell on the stairs slightly bruising her side by coming in contact with the baluster. The injury was not considered serious and at first gave her little concern. While visiting her son it developed into a large and painful abscess. During the last days of her illness she was a great sufferer. She gradually grew weaker and for the past week no hope has been entertained by her friends. Her death occurred at 12:20 this morning.

The bodywill be brought to Milton for burial, but no funeral arrangements have been made at this writing. Mrs. Cadwallader was formerly Miss Annie L. Supplee, amember of a well known Philadelphia family. She married Mr. Albert Cadwallader October 20, 1868. Her husband, seven children and one brother survive her. Her children are Mrs. Gertrude Spindle, of Philadelphia; Austin Cadwallader, of Los Angeles, California; Mrs. H. M. Hill and Mrs. Norman Rife, of Philadelphia; Dr. S. Iredell Cadwallader, of Kinzua, and Bertha and Albert, of this place. Notice of funeral will appear tomorrow.

    • They were married at the Episcopal Church of the Advent, 12 Byberry Avenue, Hatboro, PA by Reverend Enoch Hooven Supplee.

We do not know for sure how they met, but can speculate. Albert Cadwallader, then twenty-seven years old, was engaged in the grocery and provision business in Milton, Pennsylvania. During the Civil War he had served as an agent responsible for getting supplies to soldiers at the front. Two of Anna's uncles were businessmen in Philadelphia and J. Wesley Supplee was head of his own commission merchant firm and a bank president. Philadelphia was the logical supply source for a firm in Milton, and Albert Cadwallader probably had business connections with the Supplees. Opportunities must have occurred for him to meet their attractive young niece.
