- Betty's health was declining for the past year. On Dec 18th, 2000, she fell in her home, and was taken to Evangelical Hospital in Lewisburg. She was there for 3 days, then was moved to Riverwoods. During the ensuing seven weeks, she had a stroke which paralyzed the left side of her body, and made it very difficult for her to speak. This was followed by a heart attack and several smaller strokes. She finally succumbed at 3:45 PM on Saturday, February 10th, 2001. Joanne Bartoe, and Pat and Larry Hill were there to comfort her during her last hours. Services and a viewing were held from 10 AM to 1 PM on Friday, February 16th, 2001.

- Betty L. Hill, 87, Milton
MILTON — Betty Louise Hill, 87, of 740 N. Front St., died Saturday afternoon, Feb. 10, 2001, at RiverWoods, Lewisburg. She had been suffering from the effects of several strokes and a heart attack since Dec. 18, 2000.
She was born Aug. 29, 1913, in Milton, a daughter of the late Harry Martin and Mary Louisa (Cadwallader) Hill.
She was a 1931 graduate of Milton High School. She received her bachelor of science degree from Indiana State Teachers College and her master’s degree from Cornell University. She had done graduate work in school administration and supervision at Bucknell University and Rutgers University.
She was a member of two honorary education fraternities, Kappa Delta Pi and Pi Lambda Theta. She was actively affiliated with seven professional, education, food service and business organizations, the Zonta International Service Club and numerous charitable and service fund drives.
Miss Hill taught home economics in the Milton High School for 10 years and in Sayville, Long Island, N.Y. for two years. She then moved to Morristown, N.J., where she supervised home economics and the school cafeteria system, ultimately becoming director of food service for 12 schools in Morristown. In 1974 she retired and returned to Milton.
She was a member of the Milton Borough Council for many years where she served as finance chairman.
Miss Hill was also a member of the Milton Chamber of Commerce and the board of directors of both the Milton Public Library and Milion the YMCA.
She was a member of Milton Business and Professional Women, the Milton Senior Action Center, the Milton Historical Society, the Milton Garden Club and the Borough Christmas Lighting Committee.
She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, the Gold Star Nursing Home and the Kramm Healthcare Center.
Miss Hill had traveled extensively throughout Europe, the British Isles, the Scandinavian countries, the South Pacific islands, Australia and New Zealand, as well as within the United States and Canada.
Her other interests included reading, playing bridge and designing and decorating.
Surviving are two brothers, Alan Laurence Hill of Milton and James Osborne Hill of Butler, and 10 nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton.
The funeral service will be conducted at noon Friday at the funeral home.
The family will provide all flowers and requests that memorials be made to the Milton Public Library, South Front Street, Milton, PA 17847. or to the Borough of Milton for Maintenance of Lincoln Park, 2 Filbert St., Milton. PA 17847.

- They were married by Assistant Minister Rev. Charles Knowles Penney at the Hanover Hotel, Arch and 12th Streets, Philadelphia. Penney was a minister at Grace Church, a Protestant Episcopal church at 226 E. Gowen Ave. in Philadelphia. This hotel was easily accessible to the train stations for Mary coming from Milton, and Harry coming from Camp Alger, VA.
Mary was 5 months pregnant with Anna at the time of their marriage. Both families were outraged that Harry did not want to marry her, and pressured him into doing the right thing. The minister was probably selected by Mary's mother, Anna Louisa (Supplee) Cadwallader, who was Episcopalian.
Furlough
Saturday Private Harry Hill receiyed a furlough for two days and on Sunday evening he returned to Camp and was surprised when be learned that the boys were aware of the fact that he had gone to Philadelphia and while there was married to Miss Lulu, second daughter of A. Cadwallader of Milton. He has the good wishes of all the boys.
