    • Placed On Probation For Entering Plant

Six months probation must be served by Adam Fedoroczyk, 19, also known as Adam Frederick, who pleaded guilty Tuesday in superior court to a charge of breaking and entering the York Band Instrument Co. plant. The youth was heard by the watchman and obtained nothing.

Adam had been employed in the plant and went into it through a skylight, he told the judge, after having left the firm’s employ, to get some novelties he had made and had left behind. The firm had objected to him making articles.

The watchman was on a lower floor and heard the flooring creak above him. He quietly informed another man and police arrested Adam, who was lying on overhead steam pipes when seen.

    • NEW OFFICER NABS BURGLAR

Patrolman J. J. Schaab Trains Gun on Fleeing Store Prowler.

      ARRESTED SECOND TIME

Adam Frederick on Probation; Policemen Rout Him from Hiding.

A new policeman early Tuesday morning nabbed a burglar as he fled from an A. & P. store at 510 Ottawa Av., N. W. The burglar was Adam H. Frederick, 21, of 815 Twelfth St., N. W., and his captor was Patrolman Joseph J. Schaab who went on a beat last Saturday after having completed four weeks of training in the police school.

Questioned by Capt. John Spoelstra in a police headquarters cell Tuesday morning, Frederick, who in March, 1930, was placed on probation for burglarizing the York Band Instrument Co. plant, admitted he had entered the store intent upon burglary, but denied he had entered any other places since his previous arrest.

      Tipped By Telephone.

About 1 a. m. Tuesday a resident near the store telephoned police headquarters and informed the officers she heard some one in the store.
Sergt. Thomas McPhilamy responded to the call, with Patrolmen John Lemke, John Morduff, Clarence Sinclair and Clarence Boomstra.Patrolman Schaab, whose beat took him by the store, joined the squad upon its arrival. The officers surrounded the place and made a cursoryexamination of the premises, but were unable to find any trace of burglars.Sergt. McPhilamy talked with the woman who had called the station and she was positive she had heard someone and that the prowler was in the store.

Officials of the A. & P. Company were summoned while officers watched the store. The place was opened and the officers started a search. On the second floor of the building, a part of the partition was found to have been removed. Patrolman Morduff looked inside the opening and discovered Frederick. The man was ordered out by the officers, who threatened to shoot, but he refused to move.

      Dashes for Freedom.

Nearby was an ax, so Patrolman Morduff chopped away some more of the partition, but Frederick remained in hiding. Then Patrolman Sinclair hacked on the opposite side and Frederick unexpectedly made a dash for freedom, crashing through a window to the ground below. But Patrolman Schaab, who was engaged in his first real police work, was waiting for just such an emergency and ordered the prisoner to halt, at the same time flourishing his revolver. After a short chase, the officer poked the gun (end of article)
