Notes - Lawrence Leach was sent to New England by the Mass. Bay Co., in the "fleet",
with Rev. Francis Higginson. Their ship, "The Talbot" dropped anchor in the
Manchester Harbor on 27 June 1629. He was chosen one of seven men to manage
the public affairs of Salem. He was one of the founders of the church at
Salem, of which he was a prominent member. His mills were so important that
roads were laid out to them. He also had an iron foundry, one of the first
in the colonies.
